Privacy Channels

Thank you for purchasing privacy channels for your custom roller shades. With proper installation, your privacy channels will help close the gaps on the edges of your shade, creating a clean finish and providing added privacy.

Please check all parts and review this manual before starting installation.

About Privacy Channels

Privacy channels are PVC side and bottom channels designed to enhance privacy for roller shades.

NOTE: While privacy channels help block some light, they are not a total blackout solution.

Privacy channels are designed for flexible installation. Orders include all necessary components to assemble the channels into an L or U configuration, ensuring you have the versatility to choose the best fit for your project.

This manual includes instructions to install channels in a U configuration with a remote motorized shade in a square cassette, as this configuration provides the most privacy.

TOOLS THAT MAY BE REQUIRED:

Pencil, Scissors[1], Tape Measure, Drill[2], and Step Stool

[1] Channels will be rough cut to size with an extra inch. This allows you to trim the channels for a precise fit in the window.

[2] An extended length driver/bit will enable easier installation in between the channels.

Installing Privacy Channels

STEP 1: INSTALL SHADE

  1. Install your roller shade following the instructions in the Roller Shade installation manual.

STEP 2: INSTALL BOTTOM CHANNEL

  1. Measure the inside of your window at the base of the opening. Cut the two bottom channels to measured length. Channels can be cut with scissors.
  2. With the shade lowered, mark 1/8” in front of the bottom hem bar on the windowsill. This is where you will install the front piece of the U-Channel [Figure 1].
  3. Remove the adhesive backing from one of the cut bottom channels for installation. Install the front channel at the measured mark. The short leg of the channel will face in towards the window. The longer leg of the channel will cover the hem bar when the shade is lowered [Figure 2].
  4. Remove the adhesive backing from the second bottom channel. Install the back channel overlapping the short leg of the front channel, creating a “U” shape. The hem bar will slot directly between the two channels [Figures 2 + 3].
  5. Install self-tapping screws through both channels at least 1” in from either end of the U-Channel to secure channels in place.

STEP 3: INSTALL LEFT AND RIGHT CHANNELS

Mark the Position of the Left and Right Channels

  1. Use the bottom channel to measure and mark the side channel positions. Front side channel installs behind the front bottom channel, slotting inside the bottom U-Channels.

Measure and Cut the Left and Right Channels

  1. Start with the back pieces of the U-Channel. Measure from the bottom of the window to the bottom of the cassette and cut U-Channel to this size [Figure 4].
  2. Next, cut the front piece of U-Channel using the Back-channel measurement, plus one additional inch [Figure 4]. (Example: If back channel is cut to 50”, cut front channel to 51”)

Use the Notching Template to Cut Front Channels

  1. The template included notates a notch to be used for the top of both front U-Channels. This allows the channel to sit tightly with the cassette, giving the most protection from any ambient light. Cut the front channel according to the template.

Install Left and Right Channels

  1. Start with the front pieces of the U-Channel. Peel the adhesive backing and install between front and back bottom channel. Ensure the channel stays level and straight. The top of the channel will slot between front shade fabric and the cassette [Figure 5].
  2. Install the back side channels overlapping the front channels. Start at the bottom, working up the window frame, making sure the channel does not interfere with the shade fabric as it rolls and unrolls. Ensure the motor antennae stays visible and not blocked by the channel [Figure 6].

Operate Shade to Check Fit and Secure Channels

1. Raise and lower your shade to confirm that channel is not rubbing on the fabric. Then use the provided installation screws for a permanent installation. Screw through both the front and back channels with one screw. Pre-drilling is not necessary with a self-tapping screw, but always recommended. Place one screw 2” in from the top and bottom of the channels, with one optional middle screw provided.
