Frequently Asked Natural Shade Question:

QUESTION:

One side of my shade is sticking out further than the other, it looks like its twisting, what do I do?

EXPLANATION:

Twisting is typically caused by uneven thread tension during the weaving process, it can also happen over time from the natural stretch of the threads and natural materials. Twisting is most common on narrow and long shades, but can happen to any size shade.

The way to check the severity of a shade twisting is to measure  and compare the left side distance from the wall/window, to the right side distance. If the difference in distance is within 1/2" it is within the factory tolerance.

The images below show a shade that displays a 1/2" twist - this is within the factory tolerance.

The most common way to troubleshoot twisting:hold the edges of the bottom bar of the shade with either hand and twist the bottom of the shade in the opposite direction of the side that is sticking out.

PROPOSED RESPONSE:

We are sorry to hear you are experiencing twisting! Twisting is not entirely uncommon in natural shades, this may happen due to the weaving process, or overtime from the natural fibers and threads stretch unevenly.

To determine the severity of the twist, and troubleshooting please follow the steps below.

Twisting Tolerance:

1. Fully lower the shade

2. Measure the left side distance of the edge of the shade to the wall/window, then measure the right side distance.

3. If the difference is within 1/2" it is within the factory tolerance.

Troubleshooting:

1. Determine which side of the shade is sticking out away from the window further

2. With the shade fully lowered, place both hands on the outer most edges of the bottom bar, gently pull the shade towards your body and twist the shade in the opposite direction of the side of the shade that is sticking out further.

3. Release the shade to hang flat to see if twist has improved.

4. Repeat as needed.

5. If twisting does not improve, if the twist comes back after some time, or if the twist is more than 1/2" the shade will need to be remade.

Twisting Tolerance: the left side of the shade is sticking out about 1/2" further than the right side of the shade.
Troubleshooting: the shade should be twisted with the right side up and the left side down.
