AC Motors (DM25TE/S) - FAQ

Frequently Asked Motor Question:

QUESTION:

What is an AC motor and when should a customer choose this motor type over the other?

EXPLANATION:

The AC motor is a high-voltage motor that can be either hard-wired into a home's electrical system, or a plug may be added to the end of the pigtail to plug into an outlet. Either of these must be done by a licensed electrician.

The motor itself is a 1.1 Nm motor, meaning it can lift up to 15 lbs. It is slightly narrower than the Standard motor and can fit into shades as narrow as 21 5/8" (Please check the Product Guides for the most accurate specs). The motor has a 43" lead wire with pigtails (2 bare wires at the end). This pigtail can be clipped to a smaller length as needed by the licensed electrician.

To use as hard-wiring: the motor should be wired to the home's electricity in a junction box near the window. The wiring in this junction box usually runs directly to the breaker box. Only one motor can be connected per breaker. The blue wire is neutral, and the brown wire is live.

To use as plug in: the licensed electrician should obtain the appropriate plug and accessories needed and wire the plug to the end of the pigtail.

PROPOSED RESPONSE:

An AC motor is high-voltage motor that can be either hard-wired into a home's electrical system, or a plug may be added to the end of the pigtail to plug into an outlet. Either of these must be done by a licensed electrician. The motor can be ordered in shades that are 21 5/8" or wider.

A customer would order this motor type when the homeowner has pre wired windows, or needs a more narrow motor style.
