Frequently Asked Natural Shade Questions:

What is edge seal and when do I need to use it?

Edge Seal is a clear, non-adhesive tape applied to the back of the edges of select shade fabrics. Edge Seal prevents the edges of the shade from fraying.

Edge Seal is used only on select fabrics when ordered without edge binding. These fabrics are noted in the Edge Binding Required column of the materials reference table.

Edge Seal is transparent once applied, but it may be slightly visible from the back and front of the shade, especially if the shade is unlined. It will be more visible on darker fabrics than on lighter fabrics.

Edge Binding Required:
Edge binding is required when the shades edges are delicate and more likely to be damaged over time, and the shade fabric cannot be made with edge seal. Edge seal would be an option for these fabrics if it were possible, but the edge seal does not bond well to the fabric so edge binding is required to keep from fraying.
EB Required = Needs EB for warranty, no edge seal available. No surcharge for edge binding.

Edge Seal: Edge seal is used on fabrics that have shade edges that are delicate and more likely to be damaged over time, requiring either edge seal or edge binding. It will show within the order if the shade is going to be made with edge seal.
Edge Seal = If marked for edge seal and not ordered with edge binding, the shade will be made with edge seal.

No Edge Binding or Edge Seal Required: These shade edges are not as delicate or likely to be damaged over time, so they do not require any form of edge protection. Edge binding is optional and the shade will not be made with edge seal.

If someone doesn't want edge seal, can they order without it & forgo warranty?

The customer would need to select an edge binding. If they select an edge binding, that will be used instead of edge seal. Selecting another fabric that does not require edge protection would also work.
If they really required a shade without edge seal (or edge binding) and want to forgo their warranty, contact the Pro Team for an out of spec order.

Some fabrics have delicate edges that can possibly become damaged over time. Some fabrics are required to order with edge binding. Fabrics that require edge binding have the cost of edge binding included in the base price of the shade and will have the warranty for frayed edges voided if ordered without edge binding.
