Frequently Asked Roller Shade Question:
QUESTION:
Why does the idle end dial not rotate?
Why is the dial wheel locked?
Cannot get idle end out of bracket.
EXPLANATION:
Start Date 5/25/2026
The factory started using a new idle end for open roll motorized shades due to several complaints of shades falling out of the brackets. The shades were falling out of the brackets due to the fabric catching the wheel and rotating it during operation, which resulted in retracting the idle end pin - causing the shade to fall out of the bracket.
The new idle end includes a locking tab, which locks the wheel in place, but still allows manual engagement of the idle end pin.
The factory will ship the idle end locking tab LOCKED - in the DOWN position.
There is a sticker on the shade packaging explaining the new part.

PROPOSED RESPONSE:
We started using a new idle end style that locks the wheel in place, keeping the shade more secure within the bracket. The locking tab should remain locked while the shade is installed and operated.
