Fabric Falling Out of Top Rail - RS/NRS SP

Frequently Asked Absolute Sliding Panel Question:

QUESTION:

The fabric is falling out of my RS/NRS sliding panel. Can I fix this or does it need to be remade?

EXPLANATION:
Absolute Sliding Panel fabric can fall out of the top rail if it is not installed properly within the top rail, or it came loose during transport.

When troubleshooting for Roller Shades - the tip below is much easier to do with light filtering fabrics, as black out fabrics can be much thicker and more difficult to slide back into the top rail.

If the fabric is damaged or creased, issue a remake. If the customer is unwilling to try the tips belowissue a panel only remake.

PROPOSED RESPONSE:

If you have a large, flat and clean surface, you can try to resolve this issue on site before placing a remake.

  1. Uninstall the panel and top rail from the glider.

  2. Lay it face down on the flat surface.
  3. Remove one of the end caps on the top rail by taking out the screw. You will need a very tiny Phillips head screwdriver.
  4. Slide the top rail off the panel completely. It can help if you place a board across the top of the panel to prevent the fabric from stretching or creasing as you move the top rail side to side. You will press down on the board as you slide the top rail off and back on the panel. [IMAGE 1]
  5. The top of the fabric will be folded over with a plastic spline stapled to the top of the panel in between the folds. Align this fold into the L shaped opening on the end of the top rail. The fold will need to be kicked out into the small leg of the L shape. [IMAGE 2]
  6. As you slide the top rail back onto the fabric, pull back slightly towards yourself to create some tension so that the folded edge of the fabric stays in that small leg of the L shape in the top rail.
  7. Once the panel is installed fully into the top rail, check the end before replacing the end cap to ensure that the fold is kicked out and fully seated in the small leg of the L shape.
  8. Replace the end cap.
  9. Reinstall the panel onto the glider in the track. You can give the panel a very gentle tug downward to make sure it is fully seated as well.
